Seemed to make my anxieties worse

This simplified approach to understanding and overcoming social anxiety is well organized and does feature down to earth exercises that will help people overcome their anxiety, but I was surprised that it makes no reference to the genetic components of social anxiety, although it does describe life experiences that often leadup to it. It does discuss mindfulness and muscle relaxation, but doesn't mention simple breath work techniques that are very helpful.I was gifted this book by the publisher.

This book is a great resource for strategies to increase confidence in work, public and socisl situations.There are a number of assessments to determine your status and exercises to overcome the social anxiety. There is one try of room to write responses to the exercises. I feel it is beneficial to be able to have your responses in one location so it is easy to look back at them over time.I received a free copy from the publisher to review.

I found this book to be very complete. It contains lots of fun anecdotes that helped me frame social anxiety in the context of my life - Dr. Shanley offers a relatable narrative style and a fresh perspective. Dr. Shanley presents many strategies for coping and addressing the root causes of anxiety that have worked to help me and my wife in our lives. He is thoughtful in his presentation, and the book cuts to the core of the social anxiety experience. I recommend this to anyone looking for an active and mindful approach to their anxiety.

I have struggled with social anxiety for years and found a lot of very helpful tools and techniques in this book. The most valuable part of this book is the toolbox and all the exercises that create opportunities for meaningful self-reflection. I understand the root causes of my anxiety in different social situations now and have begun to use the tools the author suggests on a regular basis. Starting to see real results, which is encouraging. I highly recommend this book.

This is a FANTASTIC workbook for anyone who has dealt with social anxiety (or for anyone who has a person in their life who struggles with social anxiety who they want to better understand). The author's warm and friendly tone is paired with very helpful exercises that walk the reader - step by step - through taking an honest and direct look at her behavior and then provides SPECIFIC tools to make improvements. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

I enjoyed reading through this workbook as a clinician that treats anxiety. I found that many of the strategies suggested are identical to skills I teach client in individual therapy. I will be recommending this book to all clients who need additional support and skills that can be worked through at home. A great way to save money while also getting healthier.

This book does an excellent job laying out the root causes of social anxiety and providing practical strategies to address it and improve confidence in social situations. I appreciated Dr. Shanley’s thoughtful treatment of the subject.
